St. Jerome in his study

International Translations Day is celebrated on September 30, the day St. Jerome died.  In addition to translators, St. Jerome is the patron saint of  librarians, archivists and biblical scholars.

St. Jerome is believed to be the first person to translate the Bible from Greek and Hebrew to Latin.   He is often depicted with a lion next to him because he reportedly removed a thorn from a lion's paw.  The lion became loyal to him and remained by his side for the rest of his life.

More information on St. Jerome is available at saints.sqpn.com/saintj06.htm
